The Los Angeles IWW invites you to commemorate the legacy and lessons
of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers.
The League was a unique revolutionary union and community formation
that developed out of the urban black rebellion in Detroit in 1967 and
black militancy in the auto plants and schools at that time.
FINALLY GOT THE NEWS is a forceful, unique documentary that reveals
the activities of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers inside and
outside the auto factories of Detroit. Through interviews with the
members of the movement, footage shot in the auto plants, and footage
of leafleting and picketing actions, the film documents their efforts
to build an independent black labor organization that, unlike the UAW,
would respond to worker’s problems, such as the assembly line speed-up
and inadequate wages faced by both black and white workers in the
We hope the discussions that come from this event will further enhance
our work of building a strong, dynamic, effective revolutionary
workers’ movement from below.
Donations are encouraged, but no one will be turned away for lack of
funds. We look forward to seeing you there.
